The luxury of sleep.

Sleep problems have increased dramatically over the last several years. At least 70% of the patients I see report some type of shut-eye disturbance. It's either the inability to fall asleep, or stay that way for any length of time.
I also hear a lot of people complaining about not feeling rested and refreshed in spite of having slept a good six hours or longer.
None of these complaints surprise me. What does surprise me however is the perfectly puzzled look they give me!
Let me explain why "the look" surprises me...
In the majority of cases, there are no physiological reasons for their shut-eye problem - that is, nothing that would seriously interefere with it.
The crux lies in our mode of living. That's right.
We cannot afford to "waste" time indulging in a leisurly bath. We also have to come to view sleep as another luxury that we really cannot afford.
Oh, the times I've heard clients say, "I'm sooo tired, wish I could crawl into bed!" And I ask, "Why don't you?"
"Oh no, I've got too much to do. Can't spend my whole life in bed!"
What can you do with these people?
You hope that one day they too will see the light...

The flowers that sleep by night, opened their gentle eyes and turned them to the day. The light, creation's mind, was everywhere, and all things owned its power".

Sleep involves a decrease in all voluntary body movements. It is a state of rest that is engaged in by all members of the animal kingdom.
As we sleep, cell breakdown is decreased (is this a type of "beauty treatment"?). Our awareness and reaction to environmental stimuli is decreased. Even our hearing decreases by approximately seventy percent.
Without sleep we cannot survive. However, there are a few people who can remain awake and function well and only sleep once every several months!
The few people I'm referring to are those who suffer from Morvan's syndrome (also called Morvan fibrillary chorea - it is a genetic disorder).
As far as I know, no-one is absolutely certain of its etiology, but researchers think it may be caused by a disruption in specific potassium pathways in cells and nerves.
Oops, am I wrong or is this getting to be a little lengthy? My daughter thinks so.
Before I leave you, have you heard of a Dr. Jeffrey Thompson? Below is a link to his Delta Sleep System. Dr. Thompson has researched the effects of sound in healing.
I have this CD. This CD will work for most people.
For me, however, it did NOT work right away. In fact, several nights went by before it did its trick. But I was partly responsible.... Instead of passively listening to the sounds, I was allowing my mind to rush here and there, a thousand and one thoughts spinning in there! And that's not what I was supposed to do. Try it, give it a week, tops (but do follow the instructions). Most of you will find it an effective weapon against poor sleep.
All right then, I will wrap it up for now.
Sleep is the golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.
