These days you can easily feel overwhelmed by the number of sleep aids available.
Which one should you try? Will it be a prescription sleep aid such as Lunesta, Ambien, or Dalmane?
What about one from the health food store? You know, the one that is "all organic and natural" and will deliver not just sleep but also the moon and the stars?
All right, let me justify the quotation marks. They not meant to display sarcasm over natural sleep remedies. You should know by now that I believe in the power of nature to help us treat and combat many of our troubles.
I used the quotation marks as a gentle reminder to you. A reminder of the thousands half truths and plain dishonest self-proclaimed "experts" whose sole concern is that dollar in your pocket!
Many of these "experts" will tell you whatever they think you want to hear. No matter what ails you, they've got the cure. And - should I say it? - only their products are the very best your money can buy. Sleep aids included, of course.
Romancing-the-soap.com is not a site made up of theories, platitudes, snippets of lame research.
It is REAL, based on hard facts and personal experience.
So what are some of sleep aids I have faith in?
The first one is music.
On a previous page I mentioned a Dr. Jeffrey Thompson.
In North America, Dr. Thompson is regarded as a pioneer in music therapy.
He conducted research with thousands of people suffering from a variety of stressors, including sleep problems.
Anyway, Dr. Thompson created a number of excellent CDs to promote a good night's rest. This is one of the sleep aids I use.
Now, don't make fun of me by thinking "It must be such booooring music!"
On the contrary.
Dr. Thompson uses sound frequency patterns to build musical soundtracks that induce brainwave changes. It is not alternative music.
Is it time for a little basic physiology of sleep? Let's go...
As you may know, sleep can be divided into 2 types: REM (rapid eye movement) and NREM (non-rapid eye movement).
During NREM, your brain is inactive while you body is active. Little dreaming occurs at this stage.
NREM is made up of four stages.
Light sleep falls under stages 1 and 2.
Deep sleep makes up stage 3 and stage 4.
It is during NREM sleep that some people engage in sleep-walking.
Approximately 80% of normal human adult sleep is spent in NREM.
I will not go into the three stages of NREM (N1, N2, N3) - I did say this was going to be simple physiology! Just remember they're there.
******
REM sleep is when dreaming occurs.
At this stage your dreams can be quite visual, random, and "weird". Penile erections usually occur during REM (had to throw that in here!)
However, one can also dream during the onset of sleep called "hypnagogia".
REM sleep is characterized by a loss of skeletal muscle tone. The sympathetic nervous system is active, and if you were to look at an EEG (electroencephalography), you would see mixed frequencies and low voltage.
The last third of your sleep is dominated by REM, and its timing is linked to body temperature and circadian rhythms.
Delta waves can be seen during the N3 stage of NREM. It is at this stage that many children experience nightmares and bed wetting.
Ok, back to Dr. Thompson...
With over twenty years' experience in clinical sleep research, Dr. Thompson developed audio techniques aimed at increasing levels of delta brainwave activity.
Delta sleep is essential for optimal daily functioning.
I have several of his CDs, and they all rate very well with me.
Now, don't expect overnight miracles, though many of my customers and friends have reported quick results. Remember, I will not give you false hopes of overnight cures.
However, when warranted, I will provide you with the specifics about a particularly beneficial product - a sleep aid CD, in this case.
You are then free to check it out, try it, or just read about it right here on these pages. I do not sell any of this stuff but, whenever possible, I will try to find an appropriate link for you, should you wish to investigate it more fully, that is. Fair?
So, the first sleep aid I will recommend is Music, and specifically Dr. Thompson's Delta Sleep System. Along with it, you really should include valerian in your quest for more restful, restorative sleep.
The proper bath will do a world of good. I encourage you to give Abra Sleep Therapy a try. I have so many customers and friends who swear by it. Just a few weeks ago, Jennifer told me that she nearly fell asleep in her tub!
The Sleep therapy, as any other product you purchase from Je Me Souvien, is backed up by my 100% guarantee of satisfaction. Don't like it? Send it back, get your money back. FREE shipping too!

Thank you for reading, and I wish you all a good night.
A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor's book.
