Je Me Souvien healing bath products: therapeutic herbals and minerals
Have you ever wondered about the difference between Epsom salts and bath salts? Can they be considered therapeutic, having healing properties, when dissolved in water? What about Dead Sea salts? Herbal baths?
Here you will learn the essential difference between these compounds. You will find the material quite informative, I’m sure.
Let’s begin with Dead Sea salts and Epsom salts.
These are magnesium salts which have therapeutic benefits.
Epsom salts have the ability to draw fluids that may be present in swelling.
Dead Sea salts will help kill skin fungus and some skin infections.
However, both a quite drying, and you should always rinse off in the shower to minimize their drying effects. Obviously, these preparations should not be used if you already have dry skin; who wants to look like a pickled sardine?
Also, don't be fooled reading labels that claim to include herbals with these salts! Essential oils and herbals simply cannot mix with them and they merely float over the surface of the water.
Now, just FYI, someone asked me, “who was Mr. Epsom?”. There was no Mr. Epsom. The salts are named after a healing spring in the town of Epsom, England.
Common bath salts.
Most bath salts contain either rock salt or sea salt. Deceptive advertising may call them “Tahiti Ocean Minerals”, solar evaporated sea salt, trace mineral salt, etc. But in the end they’re simply sodium chloride, your table salt.
They are extremely hard and drying to your skin. In fact, the so-called “salt crystals” can result in severe dehydration by becoming embedded in your skin. Furthermore, common salt does not suspend essential oils and herbal extracts, and it is unable to attach to them.
As you know, the skin acts as a fairly good barrier. But when you expose it to water for 15 minutes or so, its outer layer softens and begins to absorb the surrounding water where, in the case of therapeutic bathing, essential oils and high grade botanicals are thoroughly mixed.
Unfortunately, as you have just read, most herbal bath powders simply float over the water, unable to deliver their beneficial properties - that is, provided they contain any!
The human body is a dynamic fluid water system. To understand the mechanics of this system is to understand and appreciate the basic principles of nourishment and detoxification.

The therapeutic bath preparations you see here do not contain common bath salts. In the case of Abra, they contain a volcanic boron compound that has amazing properties.
To date, this is the only water-soluble mineral that can attach to the hydrocarbon molecules of herbal extracts and essential oils and keep them dispersed in your bath water! As that barrier becomes super-hydrated, it begins to absorb the water and the therapeutic compounds. To be sure, just a trace of sodium chloride is added in order to create an electrolyte pulse that will help soften and open the water to facilitate optimum delivery of the healing herbs.
The Dresdner Essenz Bath Therapy Powders (my second choice) have a high content of essential oils, allantoin, panthenol, and vitamin E. At Dresdner Essenz, only medicinal grade herbs and essential oils are used. They are especially formulated and prepared to deliver consistently great results.
