Gotu kola, one amazing swamp creature.
Gotu kola is a perennial trailing plant commonly found in the swamps of China, Sri Lanka, Africa, and India.
It is considered one of the most rejuvenating herbs in Ayurvedic medicine, and is often used to enhance meditation.
It is a favorite food of elephants.
Its scientific name is Centella asiatica, but it’s also known as “Indian pennywort“, “brahmi”, and “Asian pennywort”. The parts used include the leaves and branches.
Gotu kola contains 3 main compounds: (1)madecassoside; (2)Asiaticoside; and (3) the chemicals brahmoside and Brahminoside.
The first one is a strong anti-inflammatory agent. Asiaticoside is classified as an antibiotic. Both brahmoside and brahminosideare classified as diuretics and also have slightly sedative properties. Gotu kola also contains healthy doses of magnesium, vitamin K, and calcium.
Research demonstrates that the plant significantly decreases scar tissue formation and reduces healing time. Additionally, it affects various stages of tissue development, including the ability to increase and stimulate the production of collagen and keratinization (replacing the skin after ulcers or sores).
In many countries, the plant extract is effectively used on the skin of leprosy patients and for the treatment of second and third degree burns.
With the application of unadulterated Gotu kola serum, we have noticed excellent results in people afflicted with conditions such as psoriasis, scleroderma, and chemical peel burns.
