Get rid of cellulite. Is it possible?

Do you want to get rid of cellulite?

Right off the bat I want to say that at my Je Me Souvien store you will NOT be able to buy any cream, lotion or gadget to help you get rid of cellulite - not at this point in time, anyway. Although there are a few promising products on the market, I refuse to sell something that costs a fortune and shows “some” improvement after many weeks’ use - and it's not permanent.

I want to see lasting results before I say that a certain product will get rid of cellulite! Four or six month long studies aren’t impressive enough for me (and let’s not forget that I want to check for side effects…)

Therefore, as far as I’m concerned, there is no treatment out there that will get rid of cellulite once and for all. But, to repeat myself, a few promising products are still being investigated by the medical community, and I promise to keep you updated through the Blog.

Let me start with some outrageous claims from the internet, all promising to get rid of cellulite, of course:

“Not only does this soap work to restore collagen in skin… it also penetrates the skin surface to emulsify layer fat also known as cellulite.” (A soap that can actually restore collagen? A soap that can emulsify cellulite?)

“Just apply the anti cellulite cream to your thigh, waist, tummy, or chin and watch the fat disappear.” (Wouldn't that be a piece of cake?!)

“--------- extract will break down fat and increase your metabolism… to form smooth tissue.” (Do these people think we’re THAT stupid???)

All right, enough of this comic relief. Let’s see what’s available to get rid of cellulite.

Endermologie was developed in France several years ago. It’s basically a deep massage where the operator uses a device that suctions the skin and kneads it with rollers. This methods requires weekly visits, ranging in price from $100 to $400 each. Treatments last approximately one hour. Does it work? For most people, it does not. For some people it works, but results are temporary. Once you stop going for treatments, the dimpled look comes back. But, if you have a lot of money, Endermologie may make you fanny look prettier.

Mesotherapy is a very controversial treatment. It originated in France sometime in the 1950s, and it‘s supposed to disintegrate the septa bands (fibrous tissue that holds fat cells in place) and break up fat. Many doctors will not offer mesotherapy. Because this treatment uses pre-approved drugs, FDA approval is not required. My advice to you is to stay away from mesotherapy until more statistics are available! We simply are not sure if the drugs injected into the problem areas have the ability to dissolve the fat of cellulite, and if they do, what happens to the fat? Can it have devastating effects on the liver? We just don’t know. Mesotherapy is also quite expensive, ranging from $900 to over $1500 for 8 to 10 treatments

Light energy. You may have heard of VelaSmooth and TriActive. The first device uses radio frequency energy and infrared light while rolling on the skin. It’s supposed to heat up the fat cells and, using suction, release the septa bands. VelaSmooth treatments can only be performed by a medical doctor, and you’d better be ready to dish out at least $7000 for ten treatments. Does it work? It does, but not permanently. Expect 6 to 8 months of smooth skin.

TriActive also loosens up the septa bands. It’s a device that uses a combination of laser and suction. Unlike VelaSmooth, the treatment is available at skin care centers; doctors also offer TriActive. Does it work? Its success rate is approximately 80%. Data is limited. So far, results have lasted for approximately 6 months. Will it be a better alternative to VelaSmooth? Only time can tell. A package of TriActive will cost you over $1300. Each package contains a total of 8 treatments (the 16 treatments claim is deceptive, as you will need two treatments per week).

Nearly all creams & lotions claim they will melt fat and remove toxins, but will they? There are a few creams on the market whose main ingredient is methylxantines. Caffeine is a form of this ingredient. The higher the methylxantine, the better the cream. You may want to try some and see what , if anything, it’ll do for you. Do not expect permanent results. If you do see some improvement, do not stop using the cream; doing so will take you back to square one. Do I have personal experience with these creams and lotions? Not personally (my septa bands are still holding!), but I have quite a few friends who tried the creams, from the relatively inexpensive ones to the high -priced ones. Results did not vary. Most showed no improvement, some only very marginal results. Basically, they’re not worth the trouble.

Finally, one more “weapon”, the Murad diet, which encourages certain foods such as eggs, peanut butter and goji berries to beat cellulite. This diet also suggests high potency vitamins, a “special” serum, and their book. A month supply of the serum and vitamins will run well over $200. Does it work? Perhaps the diet is what’s best about this program. The serum and vitamins and book are all “fluff”. But you do not have to be on the Murad diet. Any diet that promotes the consumption of fruit and vegetables, while cutting way down on junk foods, will make any skin look better.

So perhaps it’s worth going back to review the page on “Healthy Skin & Diet”. And you may want to read what’s coming to you with the March ezine/newsletter - a great information supplement for healthy eating and glowing skin! The newsletter will be sent to all subscribers on March 15 (plus/minus 2 days).
