Detoxification: foot pads? Foot baths? Are these the answer?

website statistics

Several readers wrote, asking about detoxification, specifically about those“special” pads that you apply to the bottom of your feet. Do they work?

Because of the many requests, I thought I would publish a rather brief page about these relatively new products on the market. Perhaps I should start with my summary: don’t waste your money. Don’t waste your time.

If memory serves me right, I think that “detoxifying foot baths” came first.

How do they work? Well, you’re supposed to immerse 2 electrodes in water, add a bit of salt, stick your feet in the water and watch the nasty toxins wash out from your system. As the toxins leave your body, through your feet, the water will turn some sort of funky color. The color change depends on the organ that gets detoxified the most.

In an effort to make things easier on us - or because these unscrupulous folks thought it was time to come up with a new twist to capture unsuspecting new customers - the foot pads made their grand entrance.

The foot pads remind me of Covaderm, a type of medical/surgical dressing. You’re supposed to apply one pad on the sole of each foot and then go to bed.

In the morning, the pad will smell awful and look even worse, full of a gooey mess. The smell and the slime are supposed to be all the toxins that were drawn out of your body.

This process of detoxification promises renewed energy and health. What a tale!

Unfortunately, there are "ordinary folks" out there who will sing foot pads praises. Who are these folks? In my opinion/experience, they may be: (1)company affiliates, who will earn some money by referring people, usually by placing a link on their webpage; (2) ecstatic “customers” who do not really exist ; (3) people who are desperate, gullible, or both.

The foot pads contain a number of ingredients, mainly bamboo, vinegar, chitosan, and other various plant extracts containing flavinoid compounds that will naturally oxidize in the presence of moisture, NOT toxins!

Now, I don’t want to bore you with a physiology lecture, but I do want to make a few basic, hard-facts points:

(1): Though some substances can and do pass through the skin (think of the various pain or hormone patches), there is absolutely no evidence that toxins inside your body can pass through the skin to the outside.

(2): Nearly every metabolic waste is colorless.

(3): In regards to the foot baths, the electric current cannot distinguish between good and bad molecules.

Some customers then asked about the Cellular Detox lotion available from Je Me Souvien.

Will it detoxify your internal system? No, it will not. And if anyone else selling these products tries to tell you otherwise, run!

Here is what the Cellular Detox Lotion will do for you…

It is an organic herbal formula containing extracts of dandelion, burdock, comfrey and various oils.

Your skin is constantly exposed to the free radicals present in our modern world. These are the microscopic particles suspended in heavy city traffic and industrial areas.

They will settle and, in time, embed in your skin. The Cellular Detox lotion will not draw impurities/toxins OUT of your body, but it will neutralize those on the surface of the skin. Now, doesn’t this make much more sense than some sticky pad on your feet?

The Cellular Detox Lotion is formulated using medicinal grade certified organic whole herbs. No artificial fragrances, no PEG, no parabens, no extracts of alcohol.

16 fl.oz. $17.00

So, if you want to do something good for your skin, use the Celluar Detox lotion.

If you want to do something good for your feet, take a long, luxurious bath and give yourself a pedicure.

Detoxify? Drink plenty of fluids, practice good eating and sleeping habit, engage in moderate, regular exercise, and let your liver and kidneys take care of the toxins!

Detoxification. Bathing
