The Beginning of Your Aromachology & Aromatherapy Journey
In an previous page I confessed that I am a believer in aromachology.
It's powerful. Yet I believe that we are just beginning to find out how it can help us.
What is aromachology?
It is the intriguing study of how various scents affect a person's thoughts, moods and behaviours.
I must say that there are a lot of folks out there who do not believe in it. My husband, for example, sums it up by stating that aromatherapy is "all a crock."
He is not interested in it. He certainly does not want to try aromatherapy. I suppose it's not masculine enough for him!
Now some readers may disagree with me, and they're certainly free to do so, but I'm here to say that I do not believe you can fully appreciate and benefit from aromatherapy by taking a simple shower.
Do you remember the page about shower vs. bath?
Do you remember one of the main reasons many people prefer showers?
You guessed it: speed.
If you wash quickly in the shower because you "really have to get going", it matters very little which aromatherapy product you use.
You simply are in too much of a hurry to fully experience its beneficial effects!
Mind you, many of my friends and customers did start their relationship with aromachology in the shower.
I asked exactly ten people to use a particular product. Each product was individually chosen to "fit" the "tester" (more about this later).
They all agreed the product smelled great, but that was about it.
Not good. Not a good start, but expected.
So I asked them to please use the product again - this time in the tub.
I suggested to each one of them to MAKE the time for a bath before heading to bed.
To allow themselves to take a 20-minute break from telephones, family, television (!), laundry. Yes, I asked them to put their routine world on hold for twenty minutes.
Some were reluctant at first, but eventually they all tried my suggestion.
All of them were very surprised.
One of my friends said she had bought the product because of the few I presented to her, that was the one that smelled the most "soft and clean".
She went on to tell me that when she used it in the bath, it brought back memories of her daughter when she was a tiny little baby, "so new and so fresh!..."
I can honestly tell you I saw a sparkle of happiness in her eyes, and that was good, wasn't it? Yup, it was the power of aromachology and aromatherapy.
The "Old Timers" (friends and customers who have been following the bathing ritual for many years) have attained the confidence to choose the appropriate aroma that will help them achieve the effect they desire, be it relaxation, alertness, mental clarity, etc.
But to help the new aromatherapy follower, I must learn a little about her. After all, I did not study aromachology for nothing, you know!
I simply ask a set of pertinent questions.
I will tell you what I ask and why at a later date. Just follow me, will you?
Then it will be YOUR turn to ask yourself the exact same questions.
This is going to be the beginning of a very satisfying relationship.
Your assignment for today is to write down a few lines about the three most pleasant memories in your life.
Think about each for as long as necessary.
Re-live it. Write down how you felt the moment it happened, and how you feel about it today.
You will finish by choosing THE most satisfying of the three. Write down why it is the most satisfying.
Keep your notes nearby, preferably on your night-stand. You may need to refer to them later.
